Pause. Control. Win

Where Will It End

A campaign to raise awareness of how emotions can influence behaviour choices and how low-level violence can progress to serious violence.

The Where Will It End campaign has been co-produced with young people (including those who have been affected by violence) and frontline professionals who work with young people daily.

The Violence Reduction Alliance (VRA) worked with Dizzy Heights, a local youth group, to engage with young people who have been involved in violence to better understand their views on what the campaign should aim to achieve. On reflection, the young people recognised how their emotions and feelings influenced their behaviour choices and involvement in violence. As a result of their emotions, the young people said they would avoid school, get into trouble, pick on/bully others, cause problems in the community and steal.

To support young people who struggle to understand and manage their emotions, the young people wanted to see coping mechanisms and more awareness of how emotions can affect behaviour choices.

With this, the VRA has developed the Where Will It End campaign which:

  • Raises awareness of how young people’s emotions can influence behaviour
  • Raises awareness of how low-level violence can progress to serious violence
  • Provides access to coping mechanisms for young people to manage their emotions
  • Signposts young people to support services where necessary

To support young people in understanding their emotions and feelings, the VRA, in partnership with Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust (MPFT), has developed a guide on Understanding Emotions and Feelings.

The guide covers what emotions and feelings are, how young people can recognise what they’re feeling, social media do’s and don’ts, coping strategies and support information.

The guide has also been developed to support parents and carers when talking to their children about their emotions and feelings. A section for parents and carers includes resources to help guide conversations and alternative ways parents and carers can talk to their child about their emotions.

The VRA has developed this animation for younger children to raise awareness of how emotions and feelings can affect behaviour choices and to encourage them to ask for help, whether it be for themself or a friend.

The animation follows three primary school children who have been best friends since nursery. Sophie has lots of stuff going on at home and because of this it is affecting her friendship with Jess and Harry.

The animation demonstrates how things can escalate from a falling out and sending unkind text messages to physical violence and somebody getting hurt.

The final message of the animation encourages children to speak to somebody they trust if they have feelings and emotions that don’t feel good. Watch the animation here or download it below.
