Violence Reduction Alliance

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Violence Reduction Alliance (VRA) has launched a suite of online resources for professionals to help them recognise Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma in children and young people, and increase their ability to provide appropriate support.

Although many people who experience trauma will progress in life without any long-term negative impacts, far too many will experience difficulties and traumatic stress reactions. This can result in those affected becoming involved in, or victims of violence, and have a damaging effect on their health and wellbeing.

Deputy Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Dave Evans said:

“It is vitally important that frontline professionals and policy leads have an awareness of how trauma can affect children and young people so that they are equipped to provide effective support.

“Trauma can effect many different aspects of a person’s life which is why it is important that professionals can respond effectively. These resources will not only help to prevent and reduce violence in the City and County, but will help individuals to live safe and fulfilling lives.”

The cross-sector resources have been developed in partnership with the VRA, Trauma Informed Consultancy Service (TICS), the local Safeguarding Children Partnerships, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board and Staffordshire Police. To celebrate the launch of TrISS, the local Safeguarding Children Partnerships will be hosting a launch event on Tuesday 1 April.

Detective Chief Superintendent Victoria Lee, Chair of both local Safeguarding Children Partnerships said:

“Working Together in Partnership across Staffordshire is an essential part of keeping our children safe under our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements.

“The inception and delivery of this resource is essential in providing a workforce that is fully trauma informed and confident to work with children and families.

“The resource portal was developed with professionals on the front-line enabling them to have the resources they need at hand to enable them to make a difference. We will ensure this dedicated portal is available to everyone working with children and families in Staffordshire.”
